CAVE CREEK oil on panel 16"x20"
Alvin Sandler (Sandor) © 2003
Plein aire painting is done on site,
and is valued especially for the qualities
of directness, freshness, and spirit in
capturing the natural landscape. It is a
discipline that arrives surprisingly late
in the history of art, and also in the
work of Al Sandler.

The qualities of the sketch reach their
highest status here; painting becomes the
sketch in such masters as Corot, Constable,
Monet, and Van Gogh. In painting from
nature the artist’s own nature determines
the result. Nature is not a phtograph; it
is alive. It moves, and constantly changes.

To do something wonderful the artist must
bring imagination, love, and a high degree
of artistry, as well as materials and luck
to the scene.
Cave Creek is a gem at $900.
