ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My landscapes are fantasies -- a fusion of all the places I have been and dreamed
of. It is important to me not to be limited by what I or others may think is possible
in nature, partly because I want to express the whimsical and playful side of my
personality, and partly because I believe that no imaginary landscape can be more
fantastic than nature itself.
I wish, however unrealistic these mindscapes may seem, that they will speak to the
emotions of my audience, and evoke experiences, dreams, and places that others
have also seen.
Swedish people see in my pictures places which remind them of Scandinavia. Many
people believe them to be inspired by the Orient. I myself was amazed to discover
when I first visited the American Southwest that pictures I had created suggesting
scenes from other planets were really to be found in my own country.
I have lived and traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa,
and undoubtedly have been influenced by all that I have seen. I believe that those
experiences have contributed to making my images accessible to all people of
sensitivity and imagination. I hope that my pictures will encourage people to take
another look at nature and see some of the colors, shapes, and textures that they didn't
believe were possible. They may be surprised, as I was, to find them close to home.
